"I Want A Cartoony Art Style but at the Same Time I Want A Realistic Style" - a song by me featuring fall out boy
-Danny Sexbang, 2014
Art is hard and you never cease to learn something new everyday. There is no artist that hasnt encountered a wall, dont turn around, climb it. Believe you can.
Secret of the Wings was on earlier so I drew a little Periwinkle! She’s a cutie :D
DICE in Dublin, Ireland is one of the best shows I’ve ever been to. I don’t always have time to do show writeups, but I’m sitting here very sleepy on my birthday in the hotel and kind of overwhelmed with love for this con and everyone involved in it.
Everything was amazing. Our panels, especially the Comics Are For Everybody one, were really packed full of enthusiastic and wonderful people. I sold out of basically everything I brought. I got to see the Europe editions of Seeing Red. I was given birthday cards, presents, even beer from an awesome fan! I did a bunch of commissions and met a boatload of great artists. I cosplayed as Luci from WicDiv and Kieron + Jamie signed the cover for me, although we never really did get a good photo together. I got my first piece of Little Ghost fan art. I bought Halloween decorations and got to hold advance copies of Gotham Academy with Becky Cloonan. I can’t even begin to list everything that happened, but I wish I could.
On top of everything else, last night they surprised Kieron Gillen and I with a birthday cake - A Nightmare Before Christmas one with a Ronettes record on top for Kieron - and at midnight the whole bar sang when I officially turned 26. Turns out Jordie and my BFITW Chris had secretly conspired to make it happen. From across the OCEAN.
Just try to imagine how hard it was not to cry. I can’t believe this is my life, a sentence I uttered probably 60 times yesterday. I can’t believe it. I’m so happy and lucky and here’s to 26 being even better than 25, if that’s even possible.
Hey look that’s my Little Ghost drawing! I got to give it to Kate and feel very special :D DICE was the best first con to go to!! I got to meet so many nice people and get new comics to read - it was a blast.
I made a sequel.
